Prepare to embark upon an adventure through time! Cover the history of coal mining in Germany over the course of three board games. We begin with the discovery of coal in Germany's Ruhr valley in the 16th century, a time when the land was blanketed with forests and roads were scarce. A young shepherd who made a campfire in a pit for warmth noticed his fire seemed to burn much longer than usual. The next day, he discovered shiny black stones amidst the ashes, which were still glowing and burning. The boy told the farmer about the stones and, when the work in the fields was done, they dug in the pit together, looking for more. The deeper they dug, the more nasty pit water appeared, making the digging increasingly difficult. Once at home, they discussed the techniques and tools that could be used to get rid of the pit water so they could dig deeper and extract those magical shiny black stones called coal.Components:1 Year wheel board4 Player boards3 Resource boards20 Development tiles4 Assist tiles4 'Coal-miner & Haspelknecht' tiles16 Building tiles4 Improved farmhands24 Action markers24 Debt chits16 Thaler coins1 Year marker36 Action disks80 Coal cubes34 Wood tokens18 Food tokens44 Player disks18 Pit water tokens1 Phase marker1 Bag1 Rulebook
