The Fuka Academy gains an extraordinary addition to its ranks when young Mai Tokiha joins its ranks. Mai is a HiME, which means she is selected, along with numerous other girls in the school, to use her supernatural powers to defeat the monsters and demons that haunt the corridors of the institution. While Mai fights hard to defeat the demons, who are known as Orphans, a shadowy organization seeks to use the HiME for their own purposes.
