Her 1977 black Malibu is parked beside her twenty-seven-foot Holiday Rambler trailer. Her windows and doors are bolted from the inside, but she's not there.

Stella Kirk has the instinctive ability to frame a question in a way that elicits a long-buried answer. As the owner of Shale Cliffs RV Park, she tackles the disappearance of one of her seasonal residents with a vengeance.

Aiden North, a police detective and her high school sweetheart some thirty years ago, investigates with Stella's help. Nick Cochran, the park manager and Stella's secret lover, supports their efforts.

Read the first Stella Kirk Mystery. Be part of the journey to answer the question: Whatever happened to Lorraine Young?

Review Quotes

Canadian Authors Evaluation - July, 2019

The first in a series, this book introduces us to Stella Kirk, an aspiring investigative journalist forced by circumstance to take over her family's trailer park. When one of her residents disappears from inside her locked RV, Stella's investigative urges take over. Well-plotted with a satisfying resolution.

The book generally moves along at a good pace although the first chapters are quite information-heavy, a frequent challenge of the genre.

Characters are well-developed and relatable. Stella, Nick, Mildred and others are not only well described, their thoughts, actions and observations are distinct and realistic. I thought the age difference between Stella and Nick was an interesting touch.

Both the trailer park and the 1980s are established and maintained convincingly without bludgeoning the reader. Small details (Craven A Menthol) are used effectively.

Language was generally fresh and appropriate. The book has been well proofread.

Typical of the genre, the focus here is very much on plot, not themes. But this is not a particular shortcoming.

Excellent cover and professional interiors.

Overall, this was a great read.
