His design company, Magma Design, is based in Taupo. Donovan has illustrated more than 100 stories and book covers as well as over 50 books, including <i>The Wheels on the Bus</i> and <i>Old Macdonald's Farm</i>. He has also written and illustrated books of his own, including <i>Much Ado About Shakespeare </i>which is a finalist in the 2016 NZ Children's Book Awards.
