Canon first introduced their newly designed EF-M lens line in 2012 to accompany their EOS M mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera. The Canon EOS M is so compact in size that they had to make compact, lightweight lenses to accompany it. The whole system is convenient to carry, lightweight and extremely powerful with superb features and now Canon is proud to announce that the EF-M line is expanding again with the brand new EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. Convenient and Quiet As previously mentioned the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM is a compact, stylish zoom lens for EOS M series digital cameras. The lens has a new construction design to allow for it's tiny size. A special retraction mechanism shortens the length of the lens to just 1.76 inches (44.5mm) when the camera is off, to help make carrying and storing the lens and camera even easier. Along with the convenience of the lens, the features are a notch above the rest. The lens features a quiet stepping motor (STM) which is designed to help ensure low-noise focusing. With little to no noise interference it makes this lens great for not only still shots, but video recording as well. Wide to Telephoto Lens The 35mm-equivalent 24-72mm range combines a wide angle, with a telephoto zoom for close-ups and detailed headshots. A wide-angle lens refers to a lens whose focal length shorter than a normal lens for a given picture plane. A wide-angle lens allows for more of the scene to be included in your picture. Wide-angle lenses allows for the photographer to get creative with the depth of field since the background can be made to look expansive and these lenses are great for scenic landscape photography, architecture and interior photography. Carefully designed lens placement and special Canon coatings help keep ghosting and other lens flare from your images and the integral image stabilization (up to 3.5 stops faster) can help capture sharp images, even in low light and while taking panoramas. Both of these features will help you achieve your best possible shot. And like other EF-M lenses, the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM features an auto and manual (AF+MF) focusing mode that combines quick and accurate autofocus with the artistic possibilities of manual focus.
